Primary CPD

As your subject association, the HA is here to support you through the provision of quality history CPD to suit a range of needs and budgets. Whether you are a subject leader for history looking at whole school development needs, or a classroom teacher or educator looking for support to help you teach history effectively, you will find an event or course to suit you and your needs.

Secondary CPD

Continuing professional development is one of the core elements of both teachers’ and the HA’s work. CPD, informed by formal research and the expertise of the history-teaching community developed over decades, permeates much of what the HA produces, from conferences and events, to research, journals and guides.

Historian Events

One of the HA’s aims is to bring you accessible and enjoyable history wherever you are based and whatever amount of time you have to dedicate to it. That's why we work to put together a regular programme of events with a variety of formats and delivery. You might prefer the social element of a face-to-face lecture from a local branch in your area, the convenience of a one-off online webinar, an ongoing course with regular online workshops, or a mixed economy that fits into other demands on your schedule.

HA Branches

One of the HA's original purposes was to bring together people with an interest in history, regardless of training or profession. There are now over 40 local HA branches across the UK, which meet regularly. Branches organise their own programmes of speakers each year, offering members and the general public a chance to hear from leading historians and researchers. Some branches also put on other activities including history visits and CPD events.
